R&D Engineer in underwater acoustics

Trondheim, Norge

At Water Linked we are on a mission to disrupt the market for underwater acoustics. In 2023, Water Linked was handpicked out of 1300 applicants to be part of NATO accelerator program DIANA and was ranked #35 on the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 list of fastest growing tech companies.

By joining Water Linked you are joining a bold and innovative company with strong roots in R&D and product innovation. Our disruptive nature makes up such a big part of our identity that one could almost say that we reinvent the wheel. And it works.

Our products are in use in every continent, in over 50 countries, by customers across a wide array of industries such as Underwater Robotics, Academia, Aquaculture, Energy and Defense.

Let us describe the challenge

An R&D Engineer in Water Linked faces unique challenges when developing products for underwater use, such as reducing power consumption, detecting and processing complex signals in noisy environments, and designing systems that are robust in variable ocean conditions.

We are expanding and need more brains, hands and hearts on deck, we are therefore seeking several engineers and are open to both senior and junior engineers.

What you'll do

In your daily work you will be a part of our expert group within signal processing. The group collaborates to deliver innovative solutions into our projects, and makes up one of the four main expert groups, working closely to support the business in reaching our goals. You will cooperate across expert groups and play a crucial role in one or more of our exciting projects. No two days are the same when developing new products, but you will spend most of your time either at your desk developing, in discussions with colleagues, in one of our labs testing, or even out in the field testing.

We think that you will excel in this role if you have experience in, and want to work with, the following subjects:

  • Signal processing, theoretical and experimental design and analysis
    • Mathematics, physics, FIR/IRR filters, probability theory, graph theory, lab and field testing
  • Image processing
    • SLAM, deep neural networks
  • Cybernetics
    • Autonomy, navigation, control theory, inertial sensors, GNSS, sensor fusion
  • Acoustics
    • Transducer design, acoustic wave propagation in solid and liquid materials, FEM and numerical calculations, beamforming, molding or potting
  • Sensors and electronics
    • FPGA, embedded GPU, LNA, ADC, RF, VHDL, CAD software, Altium or similar software

Who you are

As we are expanding and looking for several R&D engineers to join us, we are open to both juniors and seniors. As a junior, just graduating with a Masters degree in a relevant field you have an understanding of the subject areas mentioned for this role, and are eager to learn more. As a senior, you have in addition about five years of experience and consider yourself an expert in one or more of the fields mentioned above, and are ready to gain even deeper knowledge.

If you do not tick all the above boxes, do not worry! In our culture of innovation and collaboration, being motivated, goal-oriented and  having a strong soft-skillset are all factors that weigh in your favor. So don't let this be a box-ticking exercise. If the job description sounds like something you would like to work with, plunge in and apply!

Application deadline: 29.05.24

What we offer

Yes, we offer a competitive package and we could have made that bullet-list of what most employers offer, however we want to show you what we think is quite unique with Water Linked:

With us, you will be granted the opportunity to excel in your chosen field, therefore we are organized into expert groups allowing you to become really good and learning from each other in your deep discipline.

With us, you will be expected to take part in our journey - not just to tag along. It is therefore only natural that you are offered ownership through stock options, which is a risk-free way to take part in the company's financial growth.

Your primary workplace will be situated in our contemporary offices at Nyhavna in Trondheim, which boasts exceptional lab facilities and is conveniently accessible by car, bus, and bicycle.
